Patrick Hession
Patrick Edward John Hession is a trumpeter.
Patrick joined the Lionel Hampton Big Band in 1992, where he was the lead trumpeter for four years.[1] In 1996, Hession joined the Glenn Miller Orchestra, where he was lead trumpeter for almost three years.[2] Hession was the lead trumpeter of Maynard Ferguson’s Big Bop Nouveau Band from 2000 until 2006.[3][4][5] Hession recorded with Maynard Ferguson and Big Bop Nouveau on "On a High Note: Best of the Concord Jazz Recordings" (2007), "The One and Only Maynard Ferguson" (2006), "MF Horn VI – Live at Ronnie's" (2006)[6] and Diane Schuur & Maynard Ferguson "Swingin’ for Schuur" (2001).[7] "Swingin’ For Schuur" was on the charts for 9 weeks and peaked at 23 before falling to 50 on the last week.[8] Hession has also played with the International Symphony Orchestra [2011 Detroit Music Awards[9] – OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA[10]] and recorded with the award winning bands of the Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra on "Brush Fire" (2009)[11] [2010 Detroit Music Awards[9] – OUTSTANDING JAZZ RECORDING & OUTSTANDING MODERN JAZZ ARTIST/GROUP[12]] [2009 Detroit Music Awards[9] – OUTSTANDING JAZZ COMPOSER & OUTSTANDING TRADITIONAL JAZZ ARTIST/GROUP[13]] and the Planet D Nonet on "We Travel The Spaceways; the Music of Sun Ra" (2010) [2011 Detroit Music Awards[9] – OUTSTANDING JAZZ RECORDING[14]], Reggie Watkins on "A-List" (2004),[15][16] Kenneth Robinson on "Let the Trumpet Sound" (2008) [2009 Detroit Music Awards[9] – OUTSTANDING CLASSICAL RECORDING & OUTSTANDING CLASSICAL SMALL ENSEMBLE[17] – GrIndie Award] and "Festive Masterpieces for Trumpet and Organ" (2005) and the University of Las Vegas, Nevada Wind Symphony on "UNLV Wind Symphony 1994."[18]
Hession authored the book For the sake of lead trumpet playing – HESSION'S SESSIONS Guide to consistent, reliable and sometimes, Invincible Chops![19]
